Who is considered eligible to apply for on-campus housing?

A student who intends to attend Eastern Florida State College as a full-time student* can apply for on-campus housing before or after they are accepted.

To be eligible to occupy a room at any time, students must remain in "good standing" by meeting all of the following requirements:

  • Be in good academic standing (minimum 2.0 GPA at the end of each term),
  • Have no unpaid financial obligations owing to EFSC,
  • Not be suspended (even temporarily) or expelled, and
  • Not be subject to any active College trespass notice.

*Full-time students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours during both the Fall and Spring Terms. Exceptions to the minimum credit hour requirement may be authorized by the College V.P. for External Affairs (or their designee).

If I am only taking classes in the Fall and Spring Terms and don't need to live there for the summer, is there an option for that?

Yes. EFSC offers three housing options, including options for just the Fall and Spring Terms.

Students who commit to two major terms (Fall and Spring) have first preference for the optional summer term. Fall-only or Spring-only contracts are available on a space available basis after full academic year residents have been placed.

Visit the payment options page for full details.

Are there any student health requirements for Housing, such as immunizations?

Florida law (F.S. §1006.69) requires all students who attend a Florida college and reside on-campus to receive both the meningitis and hepatitis B vaccines, or to submit a waiver stating that they have made an informed decision not to be vaccinated (if the student is under 18, a parent or guardian must sign the waiver).

During the online application for housing you are required to upload your proof of vaccination (so have those ready in a digital format) or execute the waiver process within the application.

Do I have to sign a contract to live in student housing?

Yes you do have to sign a contract and if a student is under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must sign on their behalf.

If a student is offered a housing assignment, that offer will be sent via email to the student's official EFSC email address, which will include the proposed contract along with instructions for how to pay the required $360 deposit. That deposit must be paid and the contract must be signed and returned to the EFSC Housing Office in order to officially accept a room assignment. The deposit is refundable based on the conditions specified in the housing contract.

You also will have the opportunity to review the contract during the online application process.

Students who sign a contact covering two major terms (such as Fall and Spring) have first preference for the optional summer term during that same academic year. Fall-only or Spring-only housing contracts are available on a space available basis after full academic year residents have been placed.

Once the housing application has been submitted, how long after are you notified if you are approved or denied?

Applicants will be notified via their student email if they are offered a room or offered a spot on the waitlist. Check your Titan student email frequently after submitting the online application.

The email will include the proposed contract along with instructions for how to pay the required $360 deposit. That deposit must be paid and the contract must be signed and returned to the EFSC Housing Office in order to officially accept a room assignment. The deposit is refundable based on the conditions specified in the housing contract.

How do you choose a payment plan and pay student housing bills?

At the time the housing contract is signed, the student (or if student is under 18 years of age, the student’s parent or legal guardian) must select a payment option. The required payments are then posted to the student's EFSC account inside the myEFSC Student Portal. These are payable through the same online payment system used to pay other charges, such as tuition.

Is there a separate meal plan for students in on-campus housing?

The College does not offer meal plans; however, EFSC does have food vendors, located in the Melbourne campus student union that offer cost effective meals during the school year. Please visit the Food Service page, choose the Melbourne campus, and view the menus provided.

If selected, do students have the option to choose roommates?

Roommates are matched based on the lifestyle and living preference the applicant submits as part of their application.

The application form also includes the ability for students to list specific roommate requests by name in the special requests question at the end of the roommate section and the requested person should do the same.

Roommate requests are not guaranteed.

How will I know the rules for living on campus, plus information about other logistics like parking and mail delivery? (Updated 8/6)

Each student is provided a copy of the Student Housing Living Guide, prepared under the direction of the EFSC Student Housing Corporation. The Guide can also be viewed online. It includes information about all aspects of daily life on campus, plus safety information related to campus security and weather emergencies.

Parking is allowed in the Residence Hall parking lot and the purchase of a parking decal is required.

Students can also reach out to the on-site Residential Assistant and the Director of Student Support Services.

That office is located in the Student Union (Building 16), with regular office hours Monday through Thursday (excluding days the College is closed) from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

Is there 24-hour security, 7 days a week on the Melbourne Campus?

Yes. The College’s Security Department is committed to providing a safe, secure and orderly living environment on-campus.

To contact Melbourne Campus Security at any time, students can call 321-403-5909 or visit the security web page.

If there is an urgent health or safety emergency, first call 911. The dispatcher will initiate a response and contact Campus Security.

What is the policy on smoking and alcoholic beverages?

Smoking and/or vaping is not permitted in any residential facility, room, hallway, lounge, kitchen, laundry room, community center, common space, classroom or enclosed stairway of any building owned or managed by EFSC.

Unless approved in advance by the College President, alcoholic beverages are prohibited on all Eastern Florida State College campuses, as well as at all College-sponsored activities and events.

Students found to be in possession without prior approval, in possession unlawfully or under the influence of alcoholic beverages while on-campus or at a College-sponsored activity or event are subject to discipline including suspension or expulsion.

Are animals, including service animals, allowed in EFSC student housing?

Animals are not permitted on any property owned or controlled by the College unless they meet the definition of "service animal" under federal and state law, are an approved accommodation by the Office of Student Access for Improved Learning (SAIL) or are part of an approved course or presentation.

Are guests allowed to visit student housing?

Normal Operations Guest Protocol: Guests are permitted to be physically present inside rooms/suites from 7 AM to 12 MIDNIGHT. No “overnight” guests are allowed. In addition, the College reserves the right to prohibit any guest at any time for any reason. In addition, students are responsible for the conduct of their guests, and may be subject to discipline for their guest’s misconduct, as if their guest’s misconduct was committed by the student (see EFSC Student Code of Conduct, “Guest Responsibility.”)

If I am graduating and live in student housing, do I have to move out by the term's move out date?

During the term that a student who lives in on-campus housing is graduating, accommodations can be made to move out on the day following Commencement, provided the student turns in proof they have RSVPed for a Commencement Ceremony and plan to walk in the ceremony. Coordinate this exception through the Student Housing Office once the online system for choosing a Commencement Ceremony time has opened.
