Verification of Enrollment
Process Varies Based on VA Benefits Chapter
Verification of enrollment, when required, is a process that is handled through the VA as described below by chapter. Verification is different than the certification process each term that is handled by EFSC. Students receiving Chapter 31 benefits or students using Chapter 35 benefits as a full-time student in a degree-seeking program are not required to verify their enrollment. Students in most other chapters pursuing a program of education leading to a standard college degree or higher or in a non-degree, vocational program must verify their enrollment on a monthly basis in order to receive their benefits check for that month.
Verification Requirement Process for Chapter 33, Post-9/11 GI Bill®
Beginning with terms starting on or after December 17, 2021, if you are using your Post-9/11 GI Bill® benefit at an Institution of Higher Learning (IHL) facility including Eastern Florida State College, you are required to verify your enrollment at the end of each month to receive your Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) and/or kicker payments.
By verifying that you are still enrolled in the same courses or training every month, you help avoid overpayments caused by changes to your training schedule and safeguard your GI Bill entitlement by preventing entitlement charges for training you did not attend.
How to Verify Your Enrollment: Post-9/11 GI Bill® students are encouraged to opt into text messaging, which is a simple, quick option for verifying monthly enrollment and ensuring you receive your MHA/kicker payments uninterrupted. All impacted students with a U.S. mobile phone number on file should receive an opt-in text message after being enrolled in your courses. You must respond to that text within 14 days. After opting in, you can simply reply to a VA text message each month to verify your enrollment.
If you opt out of text message verification or do not respond to the opt-in text, you will be automatically enrolled in email verification with the email address on file with VA. Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients can also call the Education Call Center (ECC) 1-888-GIBILL-1 (1-888-442-4551). The ECC can help you opt into text verification.
For more information, contact EFSC Military & Veterans Services or refer to the enrollment verification webpage where many helpful resources are highlighted, including Frequently Asked Questions.
Verification Process for Chapters 30, 1606 and 1607
Starting with the last day of the month, you may verify enrollment for that month by calling 1-877-823-2378 and following the instructions or you can verify at the VA's WAVE website (which stands for Web Automated Verification of Enrollment).
Verification Process for Part-Time or Vocational Chapter 35 Recipients
Payments for Chapter 35 students who are pursuing a program of education leading to a standard college degree at half time or greater training time are released the first of the month following the month for which payment is due (for example October payments will be released November 1st). Those pursuing non-college degree programs, whether at a vocational technical school or at an institution of higher learning such as EFSC, are sent a certification of attendance form at the end of the month for which payment is due. This form must be signed by the student and returned to the VA before payments are released.
