Theatre Instructor and Director of Theatre Arts

Selena AmbushSelena Ambush relocated to Central Florida after more than a decade as a theatre artist in New York City and as a faculty member of Pennsylvania State University’s Theatre Department.

Prior to moving to Florida, Ambush’s work as a theatrical director has been seen Off-Broadway at the Connolly Theatre, WOW Cafe Theatre, Bank Street Theatre, and the New York City Fringe Festival, to name a few. Past professional associations include the Cherry Lane Theatre, LaMama LLC, Meadowbrook Theatre (Detroit, Michigan), the Mid-Atlantic Theatre Conference, and the Actor’s Studio Playwright/Director's Workshop.

In 2021, Ambush directed the Pulitzer Prize-winning play W;t (also styled as Wit) by Margaret Edson at the Ensemble Company. This production received outstanding reviews, including several nominations for Central Florida theatre awards. Her other regional directing credits include Gidion’s Knot by Johnna Addams and the Pulitzer Prize-winning Doubt by John Patrick Shanley at Thank You Five Productions.

For the Eastern Florida State College Theatre Department, Ambush has directed The Real Inspector Hound by Tom Stoppard, A Dream Play by August Strindberg (adapted by Caryl Churchill) and Ah, Wilderness! by Eugene O'Neill.

As a freelance writer of theatre previews and reviews, Ambush's work has been published in several journalistic outlets, including the Village Voice, L, and Pod Magazine.

Aside from joining the faculty at Eastern Florida State College in 2021, Ambush has served in both full-time and adjunct faculty capacities at the City University of New York, the College of New Rochelle, Bethune-Cookman University, and Daytona State College, as well as Penn State.

Ambush holds a Master of Fine Arts in Directing from the Actor’s Studio Drama School in New York City.
