Scott Cockerham

Adjunct Music Instructor: Guitar

Scott Cockerham received an Associate in Arts at Eastern Florida State College before completing his Bachelor of Music Education degree at Stetson University in 1989. He attained a Masters in Music Education from Shenandoah Music Conservatory in 1999. At EFSC, he teaches Applied Guitar, Classic Guitar, and MIDI Electronic Music. Cockerham has also taught for the Lake County Schools (1990-1995) and Brevard County Schools (1995-present).

Cockerham has received several awards and certifications. He was voted into Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 2006 and was awarded Brevard County Schools' Award of Excellence in 2006. He is certified to teach in the public schools of Florida and Tennessee.

Cockerham has also published Arrangements for Class Learning of Bluegrass (co-authored with Janet Davis and Wayne Rogers). Cockerham has served as a music director of the United Methodist Church in the Florida Atlantic District since 1990. He served as an interim director of music in the Nashville District in 2007.

He has performed for numerous jazz festivals in the Central Florida area, including Sun Fest, Jazz on the Beach, Lake Ridge Jazz Festival, and the Orlando Jazz Festival. Scott has also performed regularly at Sea World's Discovery Cove with their World Band.

Cockerham enjoys the challenges that playing new styles of music brings. In his spare time, Scott relaxes by playing and making Celtic harps. "It's really satisfying to make your own instrument, and the harp is so therapeutic to play."
