Igor Markstein

Adjunct Music Instructor: Violin and Viola

Igor Markstein was born in Germany and raised in Israel. He graduated from the Academy of Music, University of Tel Aviv, where he studied violin with Ilona Feher and chamber music with Oedoen Partos. After his army service, Markstein won a full scholarship to study at Northern Illinois University. There, he studied violin with Samuel Ashkenasi and chamber music with members of the Vermeer String Quartet. Markstein holds the Bachelor of Music (summa cum laude) and Master of Music in Violin Performance and Pedagogy from Northern Illinois University.

Markstein has been an Adjunct Professor of violin and viola at Eastern Florida State College since 1993. Most recently, he was Concertmaster of the Space Coast Symphony (2009-2012) and Assistant Concertmaster of the Brevard Symphony (1998-2009). He was also formerly the Concertmaster of the Atlantic Classical Symphony and Assistant Concertmaster of the Thunder Bay Symphony (Ontario, Canada) and principal violist of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra and Space Coast Philharmonic. He has been a violin instructor at UCF and Director of Music at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Canada.

A former student of Markstein, who is now Assistant Concertmaster of the Virginia Symphony, writes, "I have nothing but wonderful memories of Mr. Markstein's encouragement, hands-on approach, and excellent illustrative teaching style.
