College Courses You Would Take

It's important to know that some of the courses will require you to spend extra hours volunteering in a classroom as part of your learning experience. Before you can start working in schools, you'll need to pay for and pass a background check with the local school district to ensure the safety of the students.

When it comes to attending classes, you have flexibility. Major courses are available online or on EFSC's Melbourne Campus, while you can take the general education courses on any EFSC campus. Here are a few of the classes you'll take:

Why study in an education program at EFSC?

Hands-On Learning = Real-World Experience

As you progress through this program, you'll have numerous chances to gain practical experience in real-world settings. Many of the classes in this degree have a service-learning component, where you'll spend several hours volunteering in schools or other approved educational environments. This hands-on experience will provide valuable insights and skills. You'll also have the opportunity to collaborate with the local chapter of Junior Achievement, a national nonprofit organization focused on financial literacy and education.

Get a head start through your high school courses

You may be eligible to earn transfer credit toward your A.S. degree through education courses completed at a Brevard County public high school. If you are in a H.S. Teaching Academy and continue your education at EFSC, discuss that option with your school guidance counselor or an advisor at Eastern Florida.

are you exploring a new career in teaching?

If you're considering transitioning into teaching from another profession, Eastern Florida's Educator Preparation Institute (EPI) is designed for people with a bachelor's degree in a non-educational field who want to become a teacher. It provides the necessary training to make that career switch.

This program provided me with a great launching point for my career in education. I was able to learn, grow, and make connections while discovering all the different facets of the education pathway. Not only did I get time in the classroom, which gave me the skills needed to be an effective teacher, I was also able to expand and link these skills to my future role as an educator while participating and leading the Florida Future Educators of America Club.
