EFSC Closed in Anticipation of Impacts from Hurricane Helene

Thursday, September 26, 2024 - 8:30 AM Update

On Wednesday, Eastern Florida State College’s Emergency Management Team met with college president Dr. Jim Richey to discuss the potential impacts of Hurricane Helene.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Brevard County and we can expect heavy rain and wind gusts up to 45-55 miles mph. Additionally, the potential for tornadic activity continues to increase for our area.

Your safety is of utmost importance to us. In anticipation of these potential impacts, college leadership made the decision to close all EFSC campuses on Thursday, September 26. All EFSC classes, including on-campus and online courses, and all EFSC events are canceled on Thursday.

Students should contact their instructors for questions about the impact of the cancellation on class assignments.

Classes scheduled for Wednesday, September 25 met as scheduled.

Please be aware that though Helene is forecast to make landfall in Florida’s Panhandle, her wind field is one of the largest in recent history, stretching over 230 miles east from the center. We hope you will take this time to prepare.

At the present time, we expect that the college will be open for regular business on Friday, September 27 and on Monday, September 30 at 8 AM for classes.

Please continue to check the college’s website for updates as we monitor the storm and any impacts it may have on our campuses.
