Honors Program

To qualify for the Honors Program, students seeking an Honors Diploma or Honors Affiliate status must meet one of the following requirements and apply using the Honors Program application. (The application is a downloadable PDF that should be saved to your device, filled out, and signed, which can be a digital signature. The completed application should be submitted to the Honors Office through the Student Document Dropbox available in the myEFSC Portal).

• Be enrolled in EFSC's Associate in Arts or an Associate in Science degree program. (EFSC bachelor degree programs are not part of the honors program).
• Students with no college experience or fewer than 12 hours of college credit must have a high school GPA of 3.5 or above on an unweighted scale as demonstrated on their most recent official high school transcript, plus one of the following:
  
  
  • SAT Re-Design Scores
    Reading: 24
    Writing and Language: 25
    Math: 25
    
    
  • ACT Scores
    Reading 19
    English 17
    Math 20
    
    
  • PERT Score of 116 or above in Sentence Skills, Reading and Math
• Students with 12 hours or more of college credit must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA from at least 12 credit hours of General Education college-level work.

Honors, Honors Affiliate, and Honors Aspire sudents have different goals. While students in all three programs seek the challenges of the EFSC Honors Program and have access to Honors classes, only those classified as “Honors Students” can receive an Honors Diploma and special recognition at commencement.

Honors Affiliate and Honors Aspire students do not intend to complete the requirements for an Honors Diploma. Affiliate and Aspire students can qualify to change their status to Honors Student at any time, but Honors Diploma requirements must be met or be in progress and communicated to the Honors Office one semester before graduation.

The requirements listed below are for new Honors Program applicants. Current Honors Program students should refer to the graduation requirements listed in the EFSC Catalog for the year in which they enrolled at EFSC.

Honors Diploma Graduation Requirements

• 3.5 GPA or higher cumulative GPA
• 18 or more Honors credit hours including at least one 3-credit (or more) Honors course completed at EFSC in addition to meeting the SLS 2261/SLS 2261H requirement
• 40 hours of community service through the Center for Service-Learning and Civic Engagement
• Demonstration of leadership through completion of SLS 2261H or SLS 2261

Honors Affiliate Distinction Requirements

• 3.2 or higher cumulative GPA
• Minimum of 9 credit hours of Honors with a minimum grade of "C" and at least one 3-credit (or more) Honors course completed at EFSC to have the "Affiliate" distinction noted on transcript.

Honors Aspire Requirements

• 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA

As part of the EFSC Honors Program, in addition to the tremendous learning experiences, you'll enjoy the following benefits:

• Small Classes, generally 6 to 15 students
• Recognition at Graduation (For full Honors program)
• Honors seal affixed to diploma (For full Honors program)

Library Benefits

• Up to 20 circulating items at a time
• Unlimited renewals will be granted as long as there are no Requests/Reserves on the item (Renewals subject to recall if needed)
• Temporary loan of reference materials will be allowed at the discretion of the librarian on duty
• Up to 10 interlibrary loan requests may be placed at a time
• Librarians will give more in-depth instruction on using subject indexes for research, placing interlibrary loan requests and using specialized research tools. Appointments with a librarian can be made for individual research assistance.

Note: Honors students should immediately identify themselves and present their card each time they need library assistance.
