Respiratory Care Application & Selection Process
Annual Application Deadline June 1 for Fall Term Start (August)
Applicants for the five-semester long Respiratory Care Associate in Science degree program are evaluated for admission based upon the program's Selection Criteria Point System after applying via the specialized Application Process. To be considered for selection, applicants must satisfy program entrance requirements by the deadline.
Selection Criteria Point System
Students are selected for the Respiratory Care A.S. degree program at Eastern Florida State College once per year based on the following criteria. Applicants are responsible for providing the necessary documentation to support their application prior to the deadline. The final decision will be the responsibility of EFSC's Respiratory Care Selection Committee.
Applicants for the Respiratory Care Program must have at least a 2.5 cumulative College GPA by the application deadline.

To reflect one's dedication to a career that involves compassionate service and care, applicants will be required to show proof of activities where they have served in their community and showed compassion for others.
- One point will be awarded for every five hours of volunteer work.
- Two points will be awarded for every five hours of volunteer work in health care or in human services.
- (Maximum points = 30)
Students must submit a signed community service form in order to receive points.
- Applicants are required to complete all General Education Courses by the application deadline. (No points awarded)

- General Biology
- College Algebra
- Humanities Core
- Civic Literacy Requirement
- Applicants must be enrolled in (or have completed) RET 1024 Introduction to Respiratory Care, offered in the Summer Term. (No Points) This is mandatory.
- All Support Courses must be completed by the application deadline as well. Applicants
will be awarded 10 points for each A, 7 points for each B, and 3 points for each C
in each of the following support classes.
- General Biology (4 credits, includes lab)
- Anatomy & Physiology I (4 credits, includes lab)
- Anatomy & Physiology II (4 credits, includes lab)
- Microbiology (4 credits, includes lab)
- Introduction to Chemistry (or higher)
- Medical Terminology
Students must meet with a Health Science Advisor just before the application deadline to complete a point sheet. This is a mandatory requirements and no points will be awarded. Students must turn in the point sheet that the Health Science Advisor completes.
Students who attend a Respiratory Care Open House will receive 2 points. Upcoming
dates that support the June 1, 2025 application deadline are:
- November 21, 2024
- February 27, 2025
- April 9, 2025
Top Candidates will be contacted by phone for a video interview after the application deadline.
No special consideration will be given to previous applicants.
Students may request their folder be held over for the next deadline, but they will need to reapply, pay the fee, and update their folder as needed.

How to Apply for Respiratory Care
Application files must be submitted to the Health Sciences Admissions and Advising Office on the Melbourne Campus in Building 15, Room 101 or via email to healthscience@easternflorida.edu by the June 1st application deadline. The applicant is responsible for providing all required information detailed below and in the Selection Criteria prior to the deadline date.
Immediately following the application deadline, all application files will be sent to the Respiratory Care Admissions Committee for consideration. Incomplete files will not be considered for program admission. All applicants will be notified by email about their status in the program.
Students who are interested in the Respiratory Care program must see a Health Science Advisor to go over admission requirements and set up a course plan for completing prerequisite classes.
Students with myEFSC access should schedule Health Sciences Advising using the link in the Student Services Appointments section of myEFSC. Future Students with no EFSC login, use the guest appointment button.
You must complete the EFSC general admissions application or already be an active EFSC student before submitting the Health Sciences Application described later in this accordion.
New Students: Complete and properly file the application for general admission to Eastern Florida State College, prior to the program application deadline. The EFSC General Application is available online. There is a $30 non-refundable application fee for admission that must be submitted at the time of application to the college. Complete all general admissions requirements with the Admissions office.
Please note that application processing can take up to 14 days due to the current volume of applications. Check your email frequently for your acceptance letter.
Returning Students: If it has been over one year since you have taken a course at EFSC, you must readmit. The EFSC Readmit Application is available online. There is no fee to readmit.
CURRENT STUDENTS: Current Students may move on to the next step.
Students need to have their General Education and Support courses completed before the application deadline.
Note: RET 1024 is a MANDATORY prerequisite, offered only in the Summer Term, and students must have completed this course or be enrolled in this course by the June 1st application deadline.
Additionally, students must complete hours of volunteer / community service work prior to the application deadline.

Complete the online Health Sciences Application for Respiratory Care. This application must be submitted by June 1st. There is a $25 non-refundable fee for each program application. This fee must be paid online or at the Student Accounts Business Office before the application deadline.
An UNOFFICIAL copy of each and every college transcript is required with the Respiratory application. Unofficial EFSC transcripts can be accessed at www.floridashines.org
A file ready for the Admissions Committee review must include:
- All unofficial transcripts from EFSC and any other colleges attended
- Proof of work experience, if applicable
- Proof of Community Involvement - documented hours
- Military Service verification, if applicable
- Advising point sheet
