COVID-19 Update: Study Abroad

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the extended uncertainty about international travel, all EFSC study abroad trips have been canceled for the 2020-21 academic year, which runs through Summer Term 2021. When trips can resume, the information on this page will be updated with details.

Study Abroad in Japan

The Urban Ecology of Japan trip offers students the opportunity to earn transferable credit while studying in Japan. Study tour highlights include:

  • Hiking through volcanic steam vents while exploring the Hakone World Heritage Site and Mount Fuji
  • Learning about the cultural connection of Japan to its ecosystem
  • Exploring feudal Japanese castles and temples
  • Visiting Hiroshima and Miyajima
  • Seeing the world-renowned hot spring monkeys, Kyoto Geisha, Kabuki theatre and the Light Districts of Tokyo

Participants must register for the following associated course: EVR 2430 - Urban Ecology of Japan. The course will include one class meeting prior to departure and one upon return.

Expenses and Accommodations

Included:
  • Roundtrip airfare from Orlando, Florida to Tokyo
  • Travel on the Shinkansen
  • Nightly accomodations
  • All required transportation while in Japan
  • Admission to tour sites
  • Japanese customs fees and departure fees
Not included:
  • Eastern Florida State College course tuition
  • Passport fees (a valid U.S. passport is required)
  • Supplemental travel insurance (optional, available upon request)
