Eastern Florida State College leadership made the decision Monday morning to cancel all classes and events planned for Tuesday, Oct. 8, Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Thursday, Oct. 10 due to anticipated impacts from Hurricane Milton, which is on track to make landfall on Florida’s West Coast.

“The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is of utmost importance,” said college president Dr. Jim Richey.

“We decided to include Tuesday, Oct. 8 in our closure to ensure everyone has the time they need to prepare for the storm and ensure the safety of their families.”

The cancellation includes on-campus and online classes, student activities, and athletic games.

Students are encouraged to contact their instructors with questions about the impact of the cancellation on class assignments.

Classes scheduled for tonight – Monday, Oct. 7 – will meet as scheduled.

Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to monitor the college’s website at easternflorida.edu and EFSC social media for updates.

At the time this release was posted, the college expects to be open for regular business on Friday, Oct. 11 and on Monday, Oct. 14 at 8 a.m. for classes to resume as scheduled.
