Eastern Florida State College Announces Promotions

Eastern Florida State College recently announced promotions for two long-term employees, Dr. Mark Quathamer and Suzanne Rains.

Dr. Mark QuathamerMark Quathamer, Ed.D. has been promoted to Assistant Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness and Research. During his 16 years of service at EFSC he has had many roles ranging from instructor and student advisor to taking the lead in the college’s accreditation efforts and strategic planning.

Quathamer earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Theory, guitar performance and composition from Lewis University, both a Master of Arts degree in Computer Music Composition and a Master of Science in Business Administration from the University of Florida, and a Doctor of Education degree (Ed.D.) in Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Central Florida.

In his new role, he will lead efforts in the research, development, and assessment of new programs, ensuring compliance with institutional accreditation standards.

“Mark is consistently thinking about college processes, institutional effectiveness and serving as our North Star for accreditation,” said college president Dr. Jim Richey.

“His dedication to the college and to student success is inspirational and makes this promotion well-deserved.”

Suzanne RainsSuzanne Rains, APR, CPRC, M.S. has been promoted to Associate Vice President of Collegewide Communications. She is a marketing communications executive with more than 30 years of experience in organizational communication, public relations, marketing, advertising, and media relations.

Rains earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Communication from the University of Central Florida and a Master of Science degree in Strategic Communication from the Florida Institute of Technology.

In her new role, she will serve as the college’s public information officer and will guide strategic communications to benefit students, recruitment efforts and public relations.

“Suzanne has been here at the college for 13 years and has been key to many initiatives, including our re-brand to a state college,” said Richey.

“Her efforts with our marketing communications have enabled double-digit enrollment increases, enhanced media relations and improved internal communications. We are pleased to have her serve in this new role.”

“EFSC has earned a great reputation thanks to the dedication of a faculty and staff team that is second to none,” said Richey.

“Having a deep pool of talent from which we can promote deserving team members makes me extremely proud. Both Mark and Suzanne are professionals who have the best interest of our students at the heart of all they do daily, and we look forward to watching them develop in their new roles.”
