Eastern Florida State College Associate Professor Dr. Wendy McLallen was honored Thursday with the 2023 Distinguished Educator Award.

McClallen, who teaches English on the Cocoa Campus, was cited for her work inside and outside the classroom in areas such as course planning and professional development.

She was described by colleagues as a “crucial faculty member” who always goes “above and beyond and personifies, in theory and practice, the values of a distinguished educator.”

Dr. Randy Fletcher, Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs and Chief Learning Officer, announced the award at the Welcome Back event for faculty at the King Center for the Performing Arts.

“Dr. McLallen’s dedication and skill as an educator are on display every day, without fail. Her passion for students sets an admirable example for everyone to follow,” he said.

Nominations for the Distinguished Educator award are made by faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students. The honor includes a $1,500 award provided by the EFSC Foundation.
