EFSC Nursing Students Receive Surprise Scholarships
August 03, 2021
The Brevard Heart Foundation recently surprised four EFSC Nursing students with scholarships to help continue their education.
A’maris Smith, Ashley Kelly, Pearl Ahamed and Synelibeth Garcia Lugo are all in Eastern Florida State College's Nursing RN Associate in Science (ADN) program.
The scholarships are unique because the awards are given directly to the students to be used as they most need it. Some put it toward tuition and books while others use it for medical supplies for school or even childcare.
“We are a Brevard-based nonprofit so to us, in order to invest in the future of healthcare here at home, we want those who either were born here or who currently live here to be able to continue on their path to getting healthcare degrees and certificates, “ said Diana Adams, Executive Director of the Brevard Heart Foundation.
“Many of our previous scholarship recipients have gone away to school and then returned to serve our community and that warms our hearts.”
Students are selected each year from a pool of applicants, all of whom are Brevard County residents, graduated from a Brevard County high school while living in the county, and have been accepted into or are currently enrolled in medical school, nursing programs, physician assistant programs or nurse practitioner programs.
“The board and I are honored to be part of these students’ academic journeys as they work towards their goals in the healthcare field. While our work is focused on improving and supporting quality healthcare in Brevard, we know that investing in students through our scholarship program makes a difference in not only the students’ lives, but also the lives of people within our community.”
The mission of the Brevard Heart Foundation is to improve and promote healthcare for Brevard County citizens through programs that target identified community needs, as well as invest in the future of local quality healthcare through their scholarship program.
For over 60 years, the Brevard Health Foundation has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars in direct scholarship aid to local students seeking healthcare degrees and certifications. Donors can be proud knowing that they are not just helping today but instead, are changing the life paths of scholarship recipients and ensuring the local community has access to outstanding care for years to come.
