COVID Vaccine Available to EFSC Students, Employees Thursday on Melbourne Campus

May 25, 2021

The Florida Department of Health in Brevard County will be offering free, walk-in COVID-19 vaccinations to all Eastern Florida State College students and employees Thursday in the Melbourne Campus gym.

The vaccination opportunity will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and feature the Moderna vaccine, a two-dose regimen.

The 140 students who received their first dose of the Moderna vaccine April 29 in the Melbourne Campus gym should return for their second shot Thursday and bring their vaccination card with them.

“This is another great opportunity for members of our college community to protect themselves, their families and others from the virus. That’s why we strongly encourage everyone to become vaccinated,” said Joe Ambrose, EFSC’s Chief of Security and Director of Emergency Management.

Those receiving their first dose will receive information from health officials and when and where to receive their second dose. Anyone who cannot attend on Thursday or who misses the second dose opportunity that day, should visit Brevard County's 211 Information site for information about how to get free COVID vaccinations (first or second dose) at other locations.

EFSC nursing students will be helping with the vaccinations, continuing community service that began in February when they started administering the vaccine at Jess Parrish Medical Center in Titusville.

To date, about 45 percent of the Brevard County population has received at least one vaccine dose. Those ages 18-35 have among the lowest vaccination rate.
