May 18, 2021

Eastern Florida State College will feature its collaborative initiative, "Rakonto: Voices of Brevard’s Heroes," during three broadcasts on WEFS-TV in June.

Part of composer/pianist Daniel Kelly’s national series of interview-based, concert-length musical compositions, this new production premiered on May 11 at the King Center for the Performing Arts.

It was created in partnership with the Brevard Achievement Center and the King Center. It tells the powerful, personal stories of Brevard County residents giving back to their community regardless of their personal challenges and different abilities.

The show will be broadcast on Thursday, June 17 at 9 p.m., on Sunday, June 20 at 1 p.m., and on Sunday, June 27 at 8 p.m. WEFS-TV is available over the air on channel 68.1 and via local cable and satellite systems.

The interviewees include EFSC student Tyler Nazario, who was born with a heart murmur and bleeding disorder, and who later developed other issues, such as anxiety. Nazario discusses how he uses singing and painting as creative outlets to help deal with his health issues.

Rakonto translates to the word “story” in the Esperanto language and is the name of Kelly’s ongoing series of interview-based, concert-length compositions.
