Students, Faculty and Staff Highlighted at EFSC Trustees Meeting

The recognition came during the college’s Board of Trustees meeting as a way to publicly recognize achievements in the classroom and workplace.
“Everyone at the college went above and beyond in 2020 for their efforts in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These individuals stand out for all that and more,” said college President Dr. Jim Richey.
Here are those recognized:
Students
Ten students were honored as members of the 2020 All-Florida Academic Team, which consisted of 166 students from the 28-member Florida College System.
The students were selected based on high achievement in the classroom, leadership on campus and service to the community. The students, most of whom graduated in 2020, are:
• Titusville Campus: Krystal Schofield, Devin Simic and Regina Stanford
• Cocoa Campus: Justin Bourne, Fredy Calderon and Betty Hall
• Melbourne Campus: Dyani Peterson and Erik Swanson
• Palm Bay Campus: Jennifer Ganley and Lydia Sooter
Faculty
Three faculty members were honored for overall performance and efforts in response to the pandemic.
• Marina Baratian, Professor of Psychology on the Melbourne Campus, received the college’s
2020 Distinguished Educator Award for exceptional service to students and fellow faculty
members.
• Bill Klein, who leads the Training Center on the Palm Bay Campus, for its selection
as Florida’s “Fire Training Center of the Year” in 2020.
• Beth Rountree, Associate Professor of Math and Cocoa Campus Math Department Chair, received the college’s 2020 Excellence in Faculty Mentoring Award.
• Dr. Jeanine Henry, Assistant Professor and Director of Theater Arts on the Cocoa Campus, for dedication to students and induction into the Florida College System Activities Association Hall of Fame, Theater Division.
Staff
• Dr. Marci Hanks, Director of Academic Success Centers, for quickly moving from in-person to virtual tutoring sessions during the pandemic, which kept students on track in the classroom.
• Bill White, Associate Vice President for Information Technology, for rapidly creating the digital infrastructure that allowed online classes and teaching and working from home to become routine during the pandemic.
• Mark Cherry, Chief Financial Officer, for his role in maintaining the college’s strong fiscal position during the pandemic and getting CARES Act emergency grants to students.
