EFSC to Honor Spring Graduates with Virtual Commencement

April 22, 2020

Eastern Florida State College will hold a special Virtual Commencement Ceremony on May 14 to honor the approximately 2,000 students graduating in Spring 2020.

The taped ceremony will include video remarks from college President Dr. Jim Richey, faculty members and students. The names of all the graduates will also be featured.

The ceremony will be posted on the college’s website at easternflorida.edu/go/efscgrad, featured on EFSC social media platforms, plus air on WEFS-TV at 11 a.m. May 14 and be available for replay.

The college will also use its @easternflorida social media platforms plus the hashtag #efscgrad in the week leading up to the ceremony and on Commencement day to recognize the graduates and provide resources to help them celebrate virtually with family and friends.

EFSC canceled its planned in-person ceremony when the COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of all campuses and moved in-person classes online for the rest of the Spring Term.

“Commencement is the most exciting day of the year at the college and we wanted to do something special to celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates who have succeed in these very difficult times,” said Richey.

“It’s an extraordinary achievement that shows resiliency in the face of adversity and we are extremely proud of them. They are a remarkable graduating class.”

Richey also said the college is planning a special in-person ceremony for Spring 2020 graduates in December at the King Center for the Performing Arts on the Melbourne campus. More information will be provided at a later date.
