Sam Pak Honored as Distinguished Alumnus
May 7, 2019
The Eastern Florida State College Foundation has named local entrepreneur Sam Pak the 2019 EFSC Distinguished Alumnus.
Pak is the founder and CEO of Appliance Direct that has stores throughout Florida with headquarters in Melbourne.
The recognition will be included in the Commencement booklet at the Eastern Florida State College spring graduation ceremonies on Thursday, May 9 at noon and 3 p.m. at the King Center for the Performing Arts.
Pak also accepted the award at the EFSC Foundation’s Scholarship Reception this spring, thanking the Alumni Association and Foundation for its work in providing student scholarships.
A native of South Korea, Pak came to Florida and enrolled at Satellite High School to immerse himself in the English language.
It was not easy, but with the help of a teacher with whom he spent extra hours, he learned the language. He then enrolled at EFSC.
His desire to succeed and his idea to start a small appliance store rapidly grew after he added his well-known message, “If you did not buy from Appliance Direct, you paid too much!”
Pak’s accomplishments and community giving is impressive, and it is a journey he started at Eastern Florida State College.
“His marketing, spirit of entrepreneurship and family have led to his success. He knows that education and an entrepreneurial spirit can take you anywhere,” said EFSC Foundation Director Jennie Kriete.
The Distinguished Alumnus Award is given annually by the EFSC Alumni Association. The criteria for nomination is available by contacting the Foundation.
