Undergraduate Research Exhibition Accepting Projects

March 25, 2019

Online registration is now open for EFSC students to present their research projects from all academic disciplines, including scholarly and creative projects, at the Undergraduate Research Exhibition on April 24 at EFSC's Melbourne Campus Student Union.

The Exhibition is coordinated by Eastern Florida State College's Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) and will include two students who recently presented their research projects at the 2019 Florida Undergraduate Research Conference at the University of North Florida.

Male student Brandon Lopez-Duenas with research posterBrandon Lopez-Duenas and Hannah Olson were among more than 350 students from institutions across Florida who discussed the scholarly context, methodology and outcomes of their research during poster sessions.

Lopez-Duenas presented his work on identifying and analyzing the water quality in Brevard County lakes and Olson discussed testing and analyzing agents to decrease the growth and harmful effects of algal blooms in coastal water.

“I liked learning about the different graduate programs and speaking with college recruiters from around the U.S.," said Lopes-Duenas. "It was really helpful to ask a recruiter questions and receive immediate feedback.”

Female Student Hannah Olsen with research posterOlson said, “I enjoyed attending the workshops and viewing the variety of research projects presented by students from other colleges. I am proud of my accomplishment to finish a research project and to present my findings at FURC. This experience is a great confidence booster to a student.”

Students who wish to take part in the EFSC Undergraduate Research Exhibition must register online before the April 15 deadline. Presentations may be oral, a poster, a performing arts performance or a visual presentation of art work. More information and the online registration form are available at easternflorida.edu/go/research.

The April 24 event will take place from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. and research presented can be at the beginning, middle, or completed stage. The public is invited to attend and view the research projects.

"Participating in undergraduate research is an ideal way for students to gain insight into topics that really matter to them and to become more engaged in the learning process," said Mary Garrett, OUR Coordinator.
