EFSC Vocal Groups to Present Fall Concert
November 15, 2018
The EFSC Concert Choir and Madrigal Ensemble will perform their annual fall choral concert on Monday, November 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Simpkins Fine Arts Center (Bldg. 4) on the EFSC Cocoa Campus, located at 1519 Clearlake Road, Cocoa, Florida 23922.
The Concert Choir will perform selections ranging from Israeli folk songs to African-American spirituals, including a brand new composition by Tim Brent, a faculty member at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ, and a friend of the conductor.
The Madrigal Ensemble will present a variety of selections, including Christmas music.
A challenging portion of the program will be Poulenc’s "Four Christmas Motets". Poulenc was a 20th-century French composer whose music was influenced by both Gregorian chant and jazz, so the motets feature some of the most exquisite harmonies on the program. The four pieces are sung in Latin and are entirely a cappella.
The choir will also perform selections that are its specialty - 16th-century madrigals. Both Thomas Morley and the little known, recently discovered composer P. D. Q. Bach will be represented on the program.
The concert will close with an audience sing-along of Silent Night.
Tickets are cash only at the door: $6 for general admission and $5 for seniors, military and students with their EFSC ID.
