EFSC Sonography Program Achieves Accreditation Milestone

June 15, 2017

EFSC's Diagnostic Medical Sonography Associate in Science degree has received initial accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), a key measure of program excellence.

Sonography student performing ultrasoundCAAHEP accredits postsecondary education programs in 28 health science fields.

The organization's 13-month evaluation of EFSC's Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program included a thorough review of the physical facility, curriculum, staffing, administrative support and learning outcomes. The peer review process also included interviews with both staff and students, plus a review of organizational documents.

Accreditation is a rigorous process that is a critical part of a continual quality improvement mechanism that helps ensure providers offer education that meets the needs of students and the patients they serve.

"Accreditation by CAAHEP is the gold standard for our profession and ensures we are able to produce quality graduates who in turn, will provide quality patient care," said Dr. Harry H. Holdorf, the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program manager. "Eastern Florida State College’s administration should be commended for their commitment to providing quality care to the people in the community."

Eastern Florida launched the program in Fall Term 2015, training students to perform general ultrasound procedures through a combination of classroom and hands-on clinical education at healthcare facilities in the community.
