Weekend Car Show to Benefit EFSC Veterans Services

February 20, 2017

Show some patriotic spirit by helping raise scholarship funds for veterans and their families at the Saturday, Feb. 25 “Red, White & Wheels Car Show” at Eastern Florida State College.

The 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. event will be held at the Cocoa campus main entrance on Clearlake Road. Viewing the cars on display is free and open to the public. Those wishing to display a car can sign up on the day of the show for $25.

The show will feature classic and next-generation cars with proceeds going to the college’s Collegiate Veterans Society and the Eastern Florida State College Foundation to provide financial aid. There will also be hot dogs, sodas, and water available for purchase.

The college has nearly 1,150 veterans and dependents enrolled, including many men and women who served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

The GI Bill provides veterans with a range of educational benefits but some costs remain unpaid. The car show will help fill the gap through the money raised.

“It’s going to be a fun day for an important cause, which is helping veterans get the education they need to move into successful careers,” said Phil Sweeney, a service officer at the college’s Military and Veterans Service Center.

Participants can register their car for $20 before the show, and $25 on the day of the show.

The show will award trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and there also will be a Spectator's Choice trophy given to one vehicle.
