Fall Choral Concert Planned
November 3, 2016
The Eastern Florida State College Concert Choir and Madrigal Ensemble will present a Fall Choral Concert on Monday, November 21 at 7:30 PM on the Cocoa Campus in the Simpkins Fine Arts Auditorium.
Tickets are $6 general admission (cash only) and are only available on the night of the concert in the lobby. The Box office opens at 6:30 PM.
Admission is free for EFSC and Brevard County high school students with student ID.
The Concert Choir, conducted by Dr. Robert E. Lamb, professor of music, will perform a repertoire spanning the last 150 years of choral music. The concert begins with a selection from Johannes Brahms’s German Requiem. Three songs about “home” will be presented; the American folksong Shenandoah, Stephen Paulus’s The Road Home, and Ola Gjeilo’s Tundra. Of particular interest will be Jake Runestad’s Nyon Nyon, an exploration of sounds that can be produced by the human voice with made-up words and sounds meant to evoke a flanger, a wah-wah pedal, synthesizers, drums, and basses.
The Madrigal Ensemble will perform three movements of William Byrd’s Mass for Three Voices. Byrd was a Roman Catholic composer who managed to stay alive during Queen Elizabeth I’s reign because she so loved his music. Also featured by the Madrigal Ensemble will be four Slovak folksongs arranged by Béla Bartók, Hungary’s most famous composer of the last century.
