EFSC Foundation Receives Scholarship Donation
September 19, 2016
The Florida College System Foundation has given the EFSC Foundation $29,000 to provide more scholarships to students.
“This contribution is going to make a major difference in the lives of many of our students, and we’re very grateful to the Florida College System Foundation for its support,” said EFSC President Dr. Jim Richey.
The EFSC funds will be used to help first-generation college students and nursing students achieve their goals.
Among them is Jennah Avery, a nursing student from Rockledge who has been awarded a $1,000 Florida Blue Scholarship through the donation.
“The scholarship means the world to me,” said Avery, who will use the money to pay for medical equipment, books and uniforms. “Without it, I would not be able to do this. It has opened the door for me to pursue a nursing career.”
Avery is scheduled to graduate in 2017 with an Associate in Science Degree in Nursing. She will be among the first students to earn her diploma through classes taken at the college’s new Health Sciences Institute, which is set to open on the Melbourne Campus in January.
The Florida College System Foundation has given nearly $900,000 in scholarship money during the 2016-17 academic year to the 28 state and community colleges in the Florida College System to which EFSC belongs.
FCSF Board of Directors member Dr. Thomas Furlong Jr. was on hand to make the donation to Eastern Florida.
