Lecture to Feature Well-Known Economic Journalist and Author

January 21, 2016

Experience a different view of the Roaring 20s with economic journalist, historian and author Amity Shlaes at the February 16th Freedom Lecture on EFSC's Palm Bay Campus.

Shlaes will present “The Case for Gatsby: Why Everything You Know About the Roaring 20s is Wrong” on Tuesday, February 16 at 11 a.m. in the Bldg. 1 auditorium. The Palm Bay Campus is located at 250 Community College Parkway.

She is the author of "The Forgotten Man: A New History of the Great Depression" and, more recently, "Coolidge: A Biography of the Thirtieth President." Both books present more modern perspectives of the1920s and 1930s in U.S. history.

Shlaes has written about the 1920s as a time that saw the initial rise of a middle class and an improvement in the quality of life in the workplace, such as the increasing adoption of a five-day workweek and a reduction in the number of people working on Saturday.

The Freedom Lecture presentation is free and open to the public.

Community members interested in attending should contact Dr. John Hilston at (321) 433-5327.
