Deadlines Approaching for Popular Career Programs
May 18, 2015
The application process is open for several limited access EFSC career and technical education programs, including tracks that lead to career opportunities in the culinary, welding, auto repair and cosmetology fields.
National studies show that eight out of every ten jobs now require training beyond high school but not necessarily a four-year degree. Along with its traditional two-year and four-year degrees, Eastern Florida offers short-term career certificates that focus on technical and professional training designed to expedite the path to employment.
Upcoming career certificate program application deadlines include:
• Automotive Technology: Apply by June 18, 2015 for classes starting in July, the program's one annual entry point. This certificate program meets the stringent requirements of ASE (National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence) and is ASE/NATEF (National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation) master certified in all eight areas of automotive service specialization.
• Cosmetology: Application deadline is June 15, 2015 for a program start date of July 20, 2015. The cosmetology certificate is a one-year technical trade program, with shorter term certifications also available in nails and facial specialties.
• Culinary Operations: Apply by June 18, 2015 for a mid-summer program start. The Culinary post secondary vocational certificate program can be completed in two semesters and leads to possible careers as a chef, culinary manager, food and beverage manager, pantry cook and many others in the food service industry.
• Welding Technology: This popular program is also actively recruiting for its Spring Term 2016 class start date, with an application deadline of November 16, 2015. EFSC's welding program is designed to train students to become certified welders in pipe and structural steel and in ferrous and nonferrous base materials.
These programs require a special application in addition to the general Eastern Florida application.
