Radiology Student Invited to National Conference
February 16, 2015
Kevin Novenario, a second year student in Eastern Florida State College’s Radiography program, is one of the chosen few.
He has been invited by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) to attend their annual educational symposium and meeting in Albuquerque, N.M., one of only two students from the state of Florida.
ASRT is the nation’s largest professional association for medical imaging technologists, radiation therapists and radiologic science students. At the June meeting, members will present legislation and the opportunity for the delegates to express opinions and vote. In this case, the legislation and voting pertain to the profession of radiology.
In addition to representing Florida, Novenario will also attend educational sessions, connect with a professional mentor and network with medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals.
“We are very proud of Kevin and his being chosen,” said Sandra Lanza, associate professor of Health Sciences at Eastern Florida. “He will have the opportunity to be the voice of Florida students to the nation.”
Novenario joined ASRT last year to explore opportunities for professional development, licensure and registration.
He was selected to attend the meeting after writing an essay and receiving a letter
of recommendation from Lanza.
Pursuing the field of radiology marks a career change for Novenario who holds a Master’s
Degree in English and taught the language in Japan for eight years.
“I returned to America at the request of my parents,” said Novenario. “My mother’s a registered nurse and encouraged me to enter the healthcare field. Eventually, I’d like to teach radiography.”
Novenario is scheduled to graduate from Eastern Florida in May with an Associate in
Science degree in Radiography.
