EFSC & KSC Visitor Complex Team for "Space Racers" Event

June 26, 2014

Eastern Florida State College and Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex are joining together July 11 to promote "Space Racers,"  a new animated preschool television program that fosters children’s interest in space exploration and science.

The program focuses on the adventures of five talking spaceships: Eagle, Robyn, Hawk, Starling and Raven. The spaceships are cadets attending the Stardust Bay Space Academy, from which they launch into adventures that explore science and technology concepts.

Each episode captures a child’s curiosity and interest, laying the foundation for a positive experience with science and math that can enhance their learning in school.

Eastern Florida’s television station, WEFS-TV, is the only station in Central Florida to broadcast "Space Racers." It premiered the show in May 2014 as part of its commitment to provide educational programming to the region.

“The show can really inspire children to become interested in science and space exploration,” said John Glisch, the college’s Associate Vice President for Communications. “Our four campuses span the Space Coast and many of our academic programs serve NASA and aerospace companies, making 'Space Racers' a perfect fit for our community and region.”

Richard Schweiger, executive producer and creator of "Space Racers," asked EFSC to join with the Visitor Complex to promote the series. As a result, the Visitor Complex will premiere a never-before-seen episode of the show. Following the screening, co-creator and "Space Racers" producer Julian Cohen will answer questions and explain how each animated character was brought to life and how NASA scientists and astronauts assisted in the development of the series.

The event will be held inside the Astronaut Encounter Theater on Friday, July 11 at 10 a.m. The screening is free with the cost of general admission to Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Complimentary media passes, discount tickets and group reservations are available. For tickets, contact jen@hudsonwestpr.com. For press contact and media passes, contact adelucci@dncinc.com

WEFS-TV airs "Space Racers" on Saturdays at 8 a.m. WEFS can be viewed over-the-air on channel 68.1 and on Bright House cable channels 9, 455 and 1068.
