Two senior educators at Eastern Florida State College have been promoted to help lead new programs in academics and athletics.

Cathy Cobb

Dr. Kathy Cobb, eLearning Provost for online education, is the new Associate Vice President for Academic Programs. Jeffrey Carr, Director of Athletics, is the new Associate Vice President for Athletics.

The appointments were announced by college President Dr. Jim Richey, who said Cobb and Carr have strong records of achievement that make them the perfect fit for the positions.

“Dr. Cobb and Mr. Carr are dedicated educators who will play important roles as we continue growing our new degree and athletic programs for our students,” said Richey.

“They are experienced leaders and innovators in creating the kind of programs our college and community needs.”

Cobb joined the college in 1992 as an associate professor and has served in numerous top positions, including provost of the Titusville and Melbourne campuses.

Her work in online learning began in 1999 and under her tutelage Eastern Florida’s online programs now have thousands of students enrolled.

In her new post, Cobb will lead the development and implementation of curriculum for 20 new Bachelor and Associate Degree programs in Business, Health Care and Information Technologies.

Cobb has received many honors during her career, including the 2013 Thomas E. Gamble Excellence in Education for Economic Development Award for her work in online studies.

The award is presented by the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast to educators who demonstrate dedication and innovation in their fields.

Cobb received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Stetson University in 1981 and a Law Degree from the Stetson College of Law in 1983.

Carr’s record is equally impressive.

He came to Eastern Florida in 2009 from Trevecca Nazarene University and has transformed the college’s standing in athletics, launching four new programs and leading teams to national recognition.

As head women’s soccer coach, he has compiled an impressive 44-11-3 record the past four seasons, finishing second in the NJCAA National Championships in 2012 and returning to the tournament in 2013.

The men’s soccer team went to the NJCAA National Championship Tournament in its first season in 2013, and the men’s basketball team has won back-to-back conference championships the past two seasons.

Carr has also overseen development of the new soccer complex on the Melbourne Campus, bringing the NJCAA Women’s National Soccer Championships to the college from 2012-16 and hosting the Florida High School championships for both girl's and boy's soccer in February.

In his new role, Carr will manage all athletic programs, develop new or upgraded facilities for tennis, softball and baseball, and work to bring more major sporting events to the college.
