Titan Madness to Kick Off EFSC Basketball Seasons

A dunking contest, three-point shooting drill and free pizza are just part of the family fun Thursday, Oct. 10 as the college's men's and women's basketball teams kick off their seasons with Titan Madness from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Melbourne Campus gym.

The free event will feature player introductions, a 3-point shooting contest for both teams with winners from each gender competing for the championship, a dunk contest for the men and 20-minute running clock intra-squad scrimmages for both teams. A meet and greet with players will follow. Free pizza will be served.

The gym is located in Building 6 with convenient parking nearby on the south side of the Melbourne campus.

The men's team kicks off the preseason in the Tallahassee Jamboree at Tallahassee Community College on Saturday. It then scrimmages NCAA Division II teams Barry University at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 in Miami and Palm Beach Atlantic at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 in West Palm Beach.

The men open the regular season against Webber International's junior varsity at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 in Babson Park and play their first home game at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 against Lackawanna College.

The women scrimmage NAIA member Florida Memorial at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 in Miami and participate in the Tallahassee Jamboree on Saturday, Oct. 19. They open their regular season in the Nov. 1-2 Trinity Classic in Jacksonville and then play in the Nov. 7-9 Chipola Classic in Marianna, FL. Their first home game is 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12 against the Webber International junior varsity.

Men's players to watch include returnees 6-foot, 3-inch guard Ben Patrick and 6-7 forward Jure Gunjina, and transfers 6-1 sophomore guard Torrance Rowe and 6-9 sophomore forward Shaheed Davis.

On the women's side players to watch include 5-7 freshman guard Rhaven Kemp, 5-6 freshman guard Jessica Doyle, 6-foot freshman forward Kristina Bugarski and 5-8 returnee and guard Tomoriya Hamm.

Jeremy Shulman begins his fourth season as men's head coach. Jim Grimes, formerly the men's associate head coach, begins his first season as the women's head coach.
