Student Art Show Underway on Melbourne Campus

The Brevard Community College Melbourne Campus plays hosts to its annual Juried Student Art Exhibit in the Maxwell C. King Center Lobby Gallery throughout the month of April.

Students view works of art during a previous show at the King Center. More than $2,500 in awards will be presented this year at an Awards Reception on April 18 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the King Center Lobby.

Visitors to all King Center Performances this month can view the exhibit and it also is free and open to the public on Thursdays, April 4, 11, 18 and 25 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The show features entries from BCC students taking courses in Ceramics, Sculpture, Printmaking, Drawing, Painting, Design and Computer Graphics.

BCC Faculty members are invited to bring their classes to see the exhibit and to cast their student votes for the “Student Choice Award” for both 2D and 3D work. Voting ends on Wednesday, April 17. Contact Joanna White at 433-5798 in advance of any planned visit.

More than $2,500 in awards will be presented to winners this year thanks to the support of many individuals and local businesses including: Mr. Ray Kania, Ralph’s Art Supply of Melbourne, ArtWorks of Eau Gallie, Meehan’s Office Products, The Brevard Watercolor Society, Mimi’s Crafts, ArtSystems of Florida, the BCC Melbourne Campus Provost Office, Associate Provost Office, Liberal Arts Department, Student Government Association, Bookstore and Art Faculty members.

Awards will be presented on Thursday, April 18 at a public reception in the King Center Lobby from 6 to 7 p.m.

Custom matting for the accepted entries was donated by area frame shops, including Art Expressions, Moore’s Glass and Mirror and Finishing Touch Framing and Restoration.
