October 10, 2012 - Peter Rabbit and other tales that have delighted generations for more than 100 years come to the Simpkins Fine Arts Center stage on Wednesday, October 24.
Five tales including "Peter Rabbit," "The Tailor of Gloucester" and "Jemima Puddle-Duck" are interwoven with the fascinating life of their creator, Beatrix Potter in "The Adventures of Peter Rabbit and His Friends," a play by Joseph Robinette.
The play moves back and forth between the fantasy world she created to the story of Potter, who overcame a lonely, strict childhood during England's Victorian era, to become one of the most widely read children's authors of all time.
"This play is perfect for young audiences," says BCC Theatre Arts Program Director Jeanine Henry. "It's geared to children from kindergarten through 6th grade, so we welcome school groups."
BCC student Tyler Carlock is on the chase as Mr. McGregor in this scene that also features Ben Jackson as the character of Peter Rabbit.
The play is being performed by students in BCC's Children's Theatre class, under the direction of their instructor Dr. Janet Rubin.
There are three performances on Wednesday, October 24. The 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. matinee shows are $3 per person and a 7 p.m. show is $5 per person. There also are two $3 matinee shows on Thursday, October 25 at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Tickets are available the day of the show at the Simpkins Center, which is located at 1519 Clearlake Rd., Cocoa.
