August 27, 2012 - Brevard Community College students will soon be plugged in with blanket WiFi coverage across all four campuses.

The move comes in response to student surveys that showed the explosive growth in smart phones, iPads and other mobile devices had created a strong demand for expanding the service.

The service should be up-and-running within six months following the Board of Trustee's approval Aug. 27 for the $1.3 million project, which is funded from a new $10 per semester student access fee.

Once completed, every college building on the Titusville, Cocoa, Melbourne and Palm Bay campuses will be covered along with most of the areas surrounding the buildings.

BCC President, Dr. Jim Richey, said the blanket coverage will make the College a national higher education leader in providing such service.

"We'll be one of the few colleges in the U.S. where you'll be able to get WiFi anywhere on campus," he said.

He also said the service is an example of "listening closely to what students have to say and responding to their needs to improve their educational and collegiate experience."
