June 18, 2012
June 18, 2012, Cocoa, FL - The Cocoa Police Department and Brevard Community College
Security are investigating a Monday incident in which an unknown assailant attacked
a College employee with a stun gun in the office of the Cocoa Campus provost.
The attack occurred about 1:15 p.m. when the suspect entered the BCC/UCF Joint Use Library and walked upstairs to the provost’s office on the second floor, wearing a hooded sweatshirt and gloves.
He knocked down an administrative assistant, then held her to the ground and repeatedly shot her with a stun gun, according to John Glisch, BCC’s associate vice president for communication. The suspect then fled the scene.
The employee was taken to Wuesthoff Medical Center in Rockledge where she was treated and released.
“The safety and welfare of our students, faculty and staff is of utmost importance,” said BCC President, Dr. Jim Richey. “We’re working closely with police on the investigation and are relieved to know that our employee appears to have not been seriously injured.”
The Cocoa Campus is located at 1519 Clearlake Rd., less than a mile west of U.S. Highway
1. The area in and around the library was placed on lockdown as a precaution after
the incident but has since reopened.
