Poetry Jam Highlights Local Talent
April 10, 2012
April 10, 2012 - Brevard County, FL - To celebrate National Poetry Month, the BCC
Cocoa Campus Student Writing Club - The Writer's Haven – has planned a first annual
poetry jam, Poetry Aloud: Reading, Reciting, and Performing Our Words. The event is
scheduled for Tuesday, April 17 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the Cocoa Campus at
the Bernard W. Simpkins Fine Arts Center (BLDG. 4, Room 131).
The event is open to the public and free to all attendees.
A poetry jam is a time for poets to share their own work as well as favorite poems by other writers. The event is shaped largely by the participants and may incorporate features of poetry, music, comedy, drama, hip-hop, rap, and even stand-up comedy. All participants receive a certificate in recognition of their contribution to the day's celebration of poetry. Additionally, judges will award prizes throughout the event.
The aim of Poetry Aloud is to celebrate the joys of self-expression through the written and spoken word.
