Eastern Florida State College's Workforce Training team is here to support you in gaining the skills necessary to compete in today's job market.

It's essential for individuals at all employment levels, including job seekers, to have strong computer skills. These skills are crucial for tasks like creating résumés and submitting job applications online. Even if you're already employed, improving your computer skills can increase your value to your employer.

We offer a variety of computer literacy courses designed to help you reach your goals, including introductory courses for beginners in computer fundamentals, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Windows 10.

Computer Fundamentals

In this beginner's course, you'll gain a solid understanding of the fundamental hardware components of a computer system within just six short weeks.

The primary emphasis of this class is on using the Windows operating system and basic file management. You'll learn how to create folders, effectively organize your files, access various resources, and launch applications.

Throughout the course, you'll become proficient in using the keyboard and mouse while exploring various Windows functions and performing basic tasks in Microsoft Word. By the end of the program, you'll be able to confidently navigate Windows systems and create basic Word documents.

Microsoft Excel
Excel 1

This course, Excel 1, focuses on building fundamental skills in Microsoft Excel 2016. It's designed to help you become proficient in the basics of Excel. You'll cover topics such as getting started with Excel and understanding the new Ribbon interface, entering and editing data, selecting cells and ranges, printing worksheets, working with formulas and functions, and formatting cell contents.

Prerequisite: Prior to taking this course, you should have a working knowledge of Windows.

Excel 2

In Excel 2, you'll move on to intermediate Excel skills using Microsoft Excel 2016. Topics in this course include managing worksheets and workbooks, cell formatting techniques, using IF functions for decision-making, applying data analysis, creating; formatting; and manipulating pivot tables and pivot charts, working with smart art, creating and customizing specialized chart types, and more.

Prerequisite: Before enrolling in this course, you should have completed Excel Level 1 or have equivalent experience with Excel.

Excel 3

Excel 3 dives deeper into Microsoft Excel 2016, covering advanced topics. These include look-up and decision-making functions, auditing and error-handling, control formal options, working with array functions, date and text functions, importing and exporting Excel files, cube functions, understanding the Power Pivot Data Model, performing what-if-analysis, dealing with macros, exporting Excel worksheets to other formats, and more.

Prerequisite: You must have completed both Excel Levels 1 and 2 or have equivalent experience with Excel. Additionally, you should have a basic working knowledge of VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) and MS Access to fully benefit from this course.

Microsoft Word
Word 1

In Word 1, you'll delve into essential Microsoft Word skills for beginners. This course covers a range of introductory topics, including creating and saving documents, printing documents, creating and formatting tables, inserting shapes and pictures, applying styles for consistent formatting, adding headers and footers, customizing page backgrounds, setting margins, and more.

Word 2

Word 2 focuses on intermediate Microsoft Word skills, building on what you've learned in Word 1. You'll explore topics such as executing a mail merge for personalized documents, creating envelopes and labels, working with section and column breaks to format your documents, adding cover pages, utilizing themes and style sets for a cohesive look, mastering styles, creating a table of contents, generating an index, adding watermarks for document security, and more.

Word 3

In Word 3, you'll advance to more complex and advanced Microsoft Word skills. This course covers topics like tracking changes for collaborative editing, sending emails directly from within Word, ensuring file compatibility with other software, adding passwords to files for security, managing document properties, working with macros for automation, integrating Word with other Office applications and the web, and more.

Each course in this series builds upon the previous one, allowing you to progressively enhance your Microsoft Word proficiency from introductory to intermediate and advanced levels.

Microsoft Windows 10

This course is designed to give you a foundational understanding of how to use and perform essential configuration tasks on a computer running Windows 10. You'll learn about fundamental operating system features, how to use and install applications, manage files, and work with common external devices.

Additionally, the course covers topics such as using network connections and applications, configuring system settings, and personalizing your Windows environment while also addressing privacy features. By the end of this course, you'll have the basic knowledge and skills to navigate and customize your Windows 10 computer effectively.
