American Heart Association Courses

AHA Courses through Eastern Florida State College

Below is the list of American Heart Association (AHA) courses offered through EFSC. The AHA training serves the needs of students in the college's Health Sciences Institute and also offers continuing education for the local community. Anyone may register for this non-credit training as long as they meet a course's requirements.

Click a course name to see its description then use its registration link to check availability, register, and pay online. Check back as the registration system is updated before each term with available courses.

The accordion includes AHA blended-learning courses that involve an online component registered for and completed through the American Heart Association web platform, with the hands-on component and skills testing then held at EFSC. NURX 0143 - ACLS Renewal

This Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) renewal course updates EMTs, paramedics, nurses, physicians, dentists, and respiratory therapists to function as providers of advanced cardiac life support in accordance with the standards of the American Heart Association.

Participants should possess basic ECG knowledge. This course is for those who have taken ACLS, but their certification is about to lapse. It is required for dentists using IV sedation for extraction. 

This course enhances the retention knowledge and the development of skills necessary to manage a victim through a cardiac emergency. This ACLS renewal course focuses on the lethal rhythms and mega code skills.

Seating is limited. Successful completion is accomplished by computation of the mega code scenarios and a written evaluation.

NURX 0005 - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - EFSC Classroom Course

This initial course is for EMTs, paramedics, nurses, physicians, dentists, and respiratory therapists to function as providers of advanced cardiac life support in accordance with the standards of the American Heart Association.

HeartCode ACLS is the American Heart Associations’s blended-learning delivery method for this initial ACLS Course, delivering quality resuscitation education regardless of where providers are located with more control to complete the online portion of the course at their own pace.

You must email AHA Training Center Coordinator Brian Cunningham at cunninghamb@easternflorida.edu or call 321-433-7563 to schedule the on-campus skills testing portion, which will take place at the EFSC Health Sciences Institute after you complete the the online portion of the ACLS course.

EMEX 0005 - CPR for Healthcare Providers (BLS)

This basic life support (BLS) CPR course is for certified or non-certified, licensed or non-licensed healthcare providers, plus students entering health science and nursing programs that require AHA BLS certification.

It is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier device and oxygen), use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relief of foreign body airway obstruction.

It is intended for participants who provide health care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital.

HEAX 0065 - CPR for Healthcare Renewal - AHA Online + EFSC Skills Testing

HEAX 0063 - CPR Heartsaver Community Course

Heartsaver is designed to provide basic CPR training to people who are not employed in the healthcare field. The course helps empower students to act with confidence in the event of an emergency at work, home, or in the community.

HEAX 0083 - CPR Instructor

This course is for individuals with strong CPR knowledge who wish to teach CPR to others. Students must have experience and a current CPR Healthcare Provider certification in order to register.

HEAX 0008 - Heartsaver First Aid (Includes CPR & AED Use)

This four-hour course teaches basic CPR skills, including use of the automated external defibrillator (AED) and basic first aid. The training is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for their job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements, or anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting.

EMSX 0004 - Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

This course is designed to provide the participant with information needed for recognizing the infant or child at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest; data and strategies for preventing cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children; cognitive and psychomotor skills required for resuscitation of the infant or child in respiratory failure, shock, or cardiopulmonary arrest.
