COVID-19 Update: As of Aug. 3, select EFSC services are available on campus, with prior appointments required in most cases and facial coverings and social distancing requirements in place. See the Updated Student Services Guide for details about on-campus access and continuing virtual services. EFSC will reopen its four campuses in August for the Fall Term with many classes online, limited in-person classes and safety measures in place to protect against COVID-19. Fall Term 2020 Course Delivery Information

Under EFSC's reopening process, we plan to hold some Fall Term courses on Campus in areas such as Health Sciences, Public Safety, Workforce/Career Tech programs, select science courses with critical lab components and other general education courses as may be allowed. We have updated the EFSC Class Schedule as of July 1 to indicate which courses are planned to be available on campus or online. It's important you understand how the course types are listed and what they mean — and that they are subject to change based on the COVID-19 pandemic.

As you look at classes on the EFSC Class Schedule and within the myEFSC Titan Web registration system, you will see Fall Courses with the course type listed as one of four options:

  • Face to Face: These courses are planned for on-campus delivery at the location and time listed.
  • Live Online: These indicate Fall classes that are transitioning from on-campus delivery to remote delivery online.
  • Hybrid: Courses planned to have both online and on-campus components.
  • Online Course: are the traditional Eastern Florida Online classes without a specific day of the week listed.

The "Live Online" versus "Online Course" distinction on the Class Schedule is important to understand when registering for classes so please review all of the information below.

Infographic Version of This Live Online Web Page's Content“Live Online” course content may be delivered synchronously, meaning in real time, at a specific date and time, in a virtual classroom. "Live Online" courses are offered remotely online, but are connected to and operated through one of EFSC’s four campuses.

“Online” courses are delivered asynchronously, meaning not in real time or at a specific time or place. These traditional online courses are independent of a physical campus and operated through Eastern Florida Online.

Many "Live Online" courses can also be delivered asynchronously based on the teaching style that the instructor chooses to use.

Live Online courses include designated days of the week and times of day in the Class Schedule listing that they would have met face-to-face, plus the Campus location. You cannot overlap Live Online classes with the same delivery time when registering. Each instructor will let students know within the Canvas platform and course syllabus whether they will deliver the Live Online course in a synchronous (real-time) or asynchronous method.

For a Live Online class, students could be required to log in to the class during the scheduled day(s) and time(s) to participate virtually. For this reason, Live Online classes are not considered part of Eastern Florida Online. Students in a Live Online class must have reliable Internet access, a microphone and a webcam. Instructors will determine how any live video and audio components of the class will work and when within the originally scheduled class time. Other elements of the class, such as certain assignments, will happen without real-time interaction between the student and instructor.

Classes that are approved to meet on Campus for any part of term during Fall 2020 will follow appropriate CDC guidelines to ensure the health and safety of students and faculty, with masks or facial coverings required by all and social distancing measures in place.
