EFSC Public Dental Services

Our Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting programs proudly give back to the community through our reduced price Dental Clinic, including paid services for adults and free preventive care for children. The Clinic is the training site for Eastern Florida State College Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting students — so services and appointment availability can change each semester based on the educational needs of our students.

Happy Smiles Free Care for Children

For children ages 4-17, all preventive care is provided free of charge thanks to generous underwriting from the Guy and Delores Spearman Happy Smiles, Happy Kids Fund through the EFSC Foundation. Free services for children include cleanings, x-rays, sealants, and fluoride treatments, with year-round availability, but only by appointment. Children of EFSC employees may visit the clinic, but must pay for services at the published rates.

How Clinic Appointments Work

The Dental cleanings process is different than at a regular dentist office. Cleanings often take place over several appointments because the hygenist or in some cases dental assistant is a student whose supervised work is being checked at each step. Children typically take 1 to 2 visits lasting 3.5 hours each. Adults can be 3 to 4 visits with each visit being 3.5 hours.

Adults are required to come for a screening appointment to ensure they are medically eligible for care in the clinic. If approved for a cleaning, the number of appointments required is determined based on an assessment at the first cleaning appointment. Children are not required to have a screening appointment, and the need for a second visit is determined at the child's first appointment.
