Creativity has been identified as one of the five essential characteristics of successful people in the 21st century.
The primary mission of EFSC's Performing and Visual Arts Department is to educate and train future majors in the disciplines of music, theatre, studio art and dance. Our secondary mission is to enrich the lives of the Brevard community — including students who take our classes as non-majors and community members who attend our concerts, recitals, art shows and theatrical presentations.

Performing Arts and Fine Arts/Studio Arts courses at EFSC support the A.A. degree and some A.S. degrees and are intended to help a student with pre-requisite transfer courses to help the student move on to a bachelor's program.
To explore the courses available and learn more about each program, visit the Performing and Visual Arts website, www.easternflorida.edu:85/go/arts.
The study of the arts and their effect on our societies has been part of the design of liberal education since the time of the Greeks. Studying the arts teaches us how people have expressed themselves in past cultures and offers modern students opportunities to learn to express themselves now. Our Fine and Performing Arts Department's vision is to offer the finest arts instruction and facilities available to our students.
Students at EFSC who are seeking an AA degree must take 36 credits of core classes and 24 elective credits. EFSC Fine and Performing Arts programs are meant to be taken as elective credits, but will transfer as parts of your major if you continue studying the arts at a four-year college or university.
Unlike many college majors, majoring in music requires starting in the freshman year in order to finish in four or five years. EFSC offers the first four semesters of music theory, ear training, keyboard harmony, ensembles, recitals and private lessons in your major instrument or voice.
The Music and Theatre Departments are housed in the Simpkins Fine Arts Center on the Cocoa Campus. Studio Art and Dance instruction are offered on the Cocoa and Melbourne campuses.
