Veterinary Practice Management - Certificate Program
The Veterinary Practice Management Advanced Technical Certificate (ATC) allows veterinary professionals to train for the business side of operating a practice through a 100% online course curriculum that covers personnel management, accounting and finance, marketing, legal requirements, and budgeting and planning.
The program is designed for students who already have earned an Associate in Science degree in Veterinary Technology or Veterinary Nursing from an AVMA accredited program at a regionally accredited institution.
Students with an Associate in Science (A.S.) or Associate in Applied Science (AAS) and a strong science or business background who wish to be considered for the program, must meet with the Program Manager.
The Veterinary Practice Management ATC courses are also part of the Applied Health Sciences Bachelor of Applied Sciences (BAS) degree - Veterinary Technology Specialization. That means the certificate can be earned on its own or as part of the bachelor degree.

Veterinary practice management COURSE CURRICULUM
The certificate's six courses include a capstone course designed to have you put what you've learned to practical use through a comprehensive final project.
The program aligns with the education requirements of the Veterinary Hospital Manager Association (VHMA) examination for Certified Veterinary Practice managers.
Veterinary Practice Management Admissions Information
Application to the program follows EFSC's general admissions process, with exact steps determined by whether you are a first-time in college student, already an accepted EFSC student, or a prior student who needs to be readmitted.
Advanced Technical Certificate programs require that applicants already have an A.S. or AAS degree, and your prior credits will be evaluated as part of the application process.

Students with an A.S. or AAS in an area besides Veterinary Technology must meet with the program manager to be considered.
Estimated Costs & Financial Aid Eligibility
The ATC courses are all 3000 and 4000 level upper-division courses so follow the bachelor program tuition rate. At 19 credit hours, the estimated tuition cost for a student who qualifies for the Florida resident rate is about $2,500. The program is eligible for Federal financial aid and students are encouraged to apply for financial aid and scholarships to help cover your costs.
College Courses You Would Take
During the program you will learn to address veterinary practice issues and ethics, how to manage and communicate with employees, plus how to market a veterinary business. Here are some of the courses you would take:
Explore vet practice laws and ethics, plus examine regulatory agencies for veterinary medicine, including state and federal regulations.
You'll learn about market research, planning, strategy, and tactics. Ethics and entrepreneurship are studied within marketing's five “Ps”: product, place, price, people, and promotion.
This course will study the financial and economic concepts necessary to run a small business with an emphasis on managing cash flow and planning.
Explore recruitment, selection, staffing, and training methods, plus how to recruit, interview, and onboard qualified applicants.
Why earn EFSC's Veterinary Practice Management ATC?
The program gets you ready to earn an industry credential! Students completing the ATC may apply for the Board exam for Certified Veterinary Practice Management (CVPM) from the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association (VHMA) after completion of the following requirements:
- Active employment as a practice manager for a minimum of three years within the last 7 years
- Completion of 48 hours of continuing education in management
- Four letters of recommendation
